Trans Atlas Ultra Marathon & Trans Atlas Challenge (2 options)
Morocco
NEXT RACE DATES 23 – 31 May 2025
As all extreme runners know, there are many places to explore and run on this planet. The number of extreme events runs high with many spectacular events around the globe. Trans Atlas Marathon however, one which should not be missed.
In order to make the race and experience accessible to a wider range of runner ability we have added an option for less extreme runners to enjoy the same race with less kilometers.
With the added option of running the TAM CHALLENGE (lite version of the TAM) for people who want to partake but do not feel able to complete the gruelling 285 km in six days this option means you run the first half of each stage and are collected by 4×4 at one of the check points and driven to the end of the stage. Those who completed the CHALLENGE in 2017 have raved about this wonderful set up enabling them to experience the same excitement and beauty of the TAM without requiring them to have the extreme fitness required for the full stages.
What is so very different about Trans Atlas Marathon is the scale of it. The absolutely immeasurable level of intimacy and contact with the people who live in the spectacular scenery through which you will run.
The High Atlas mountains are an area of extreme natural beauty, untouched and undeveloped, retaining the full authenticity of a world of another time.
By becoming part of the tribe of Trans Atlas Marathon runners, you will not only be put through some of the toughest running on the planet but you will be part of a group that is small enough to enjoy what is rare these days in extreme events; true camaraderie and contact on a human scale.
The organisers of this epic 4 stage race are the world famous Ahancal brothers (Mohamad and Lahcen), who made their names by coming first and second place in 15 editions of the Marathon des Sables race in the Moroccan Sahara. These two men have run and in some cases won some of the toughest races on the planet and finally decided in 2012 to start their own extreme foot race across the High Atlas mountains in terrain that will keep you gasping for breath not only physically but also metaphorically through the diverse beauty of the landscape they want you to experience.
Now in its 12th edition / 2013 was the first race, Trans Atlas Marathon is becoming something of a legend in terms of both the physical challenge and the humanistic and atmosphere that runners report after the end of the experience. Read runners testimonials here to understand the level of appreciation they feel for the time spent on this experience of a lifetime.
In terms of organisation, the race runs each year with brilliant logistics and planning. Mohamad, Lahcen and their team are truly deserving of the praise they receive and 2023 is going to be a big year for Trans Atlas Marathon with numbers having trippled from year 3 to 4, we are now expecting to have 100 runners for 2024.
